An unseasonably hot, sunny day

The weather, currently.

We return to the work week with a pretty hot day, so shed your layers and apply a few coats of sunscreen. If Monday hits the forecasted high of 90°F, it could set a new record for this day in April. This is a dry heat, and already my palms are craving moisture. But don’t fear another heat wave. An onshore flow is already brewing, bringing in cool air from the sea. Though the evening will still be quite warm—cresting from the 80’s to the 70’s around 8:00 PM—by nightfall, it will dial down the temperature into the 50’s and set us up for a pleasant week.

Nature as Healing
Forming a personal relationship with the Earth, one that forced me to view its own healing as intertwined with my own, forced me to confront my own healing.

In a personal essay, Currently’s managing editor Zaria Howell writes about how the Earth and our own healing are intrinsically connected. Zaria is an environmental journalist— but focused on wellness and mental health— she is also pursuing a Masters in Social Work at Columbia University.

In the summer of 2021 Zaria spent two months living and working on a farm, the experience changed how she views taking care of her own body and mind.

She writes, “And so, perhaps now more than ever, is time for us, as a collective, to decide what environmental consciousness means and looks like to us, for it’s clear we’ve become disconnected from the life force energy that binds us to our environment.”Read more of Zaria’s essay Nature as Healing online.
